This is incorrect. There are many so-called "satellite" galaxies that orbit the Milky Way without orbiting the Local Group's center. Check out this Wikipedia article for a list: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Milky_Way%27s_satellite_galaxies

The meteor that the OP observed was in Earth's atmosphere; other planets won't be affecting the meteor's trajectory in such a case, while Earth's atmosphere will have a significant effect.
