I'd like to share the answer I found, but I don't have enough rep on the astronomy stack exchange, so I can only comment. Which night be good, because this might be very wrong. But, basically, the answer is, there is no trend, rotation rate and direction are largely decided by collisions of objects with the protoplanetary disc and the planet itself, and the Solar system's uniformity is an exception. I'd also found a reference saying that the first few exoplanets whose axial rotation was detected rotated retrograde, but cannot find it again...
