As I know, most galaxies are spiral, some elliptical, and a rare type is ring-shaped.

What causes a galaxy to become a specific shape (i.e. ring vs spiral)?

$\begingroup$ This is a good, but not easily answerable question. But did you read the Wikipedia article on galaxy types and morphology, as well as links therein? It covers the question fairly well. $\endgroup$ – pela Aug 7 at 6:23
